Background information:

Shakespeare in Styria was founded by Nicholas Allen and Rudolph Wojta in 2002. The aim was and is to bring together some 30 to 35 young actors, acting students and school leavers who intend to make theatre their career for two weeks during July each year in Murau, a tiny but beautiful medieval town tucked away in the heart of the Styrian Alps of Austria.

In July 2011 the very experienced Sean Aita directed his first full production for Shakespeare in Styria with a wonderfully well received production of Twelfth Night, with the whole cast receiving expert tuition from our Artist in Residence, Roberta Brown, in stage fighting.

In July 2010, we had two productions; King Lear & A Midsummer Night's Dream. King Lear was played by our Actor in Residence of several years standing, John Harwood.

2010 was the last year that Dan Winder, resident Artisitic Director for Shakespeare in Styria from 2007 to 2010, was able to join us. Over the four years that Dan led the artistic direction of the company Shakespeare in Styria grew in confidence and excellence, becoming a real Anglo Austrian cultural success story. His productions of Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth will long remain in the memory of those lucky enough to see them and his final show, King Lear, was a fitting culimination to his distinguished time with us.
